چکیده

We have studied exchange anisotropy at ferromagnet/antiferromagnet ~FM-AFM! interfaces as a function of cooling field in Ni80Fe20 ~permalloy! films deposited on bulk single-crystal CoO substrates. Hysteresis loops measured after cooling through the antiferromagnetic ordering temperature in different magnetic fields show that the exchange bias has little dependence on cooling field. Large cooling fields produced hysteresis loops with larger remanent magnetization and larger coercivity. These trends can be explained using a model that assumes that the FM anisotropy axis directions can be influenced by the magnetic history of the AFM. Large cooling fields also led to larger CoO susceptibility, which implies rotation of the CoO spin axes. The simultaneous rotation of the FM anisotropy axes and the AFM spin axes suggests perpendicular coupling at the FM-AFM interface. © 1996 American Institute of Physics. @S0021-8979~96!17908-8#

Intrinsic perpendicular anisotropy and exchange biasing in CoO/permalloy multilayers

For permalloy/CoO multilayers, the exchange field and the coercivity of the perpendicular and longitudinal exchange biasing have been found to decrease with increasing temperature. After zero field cooling, perpendicular magnetic anisotropy is observed. For small permalloy layer thickness, perpendicular anisotropy film can be established at low temperatures. r 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights rese...

Increased exchange anisotropy due to disorder at permalloy/CoO interfaces

The exchange anisotropy of Nis&Je,, (permalloy) films deposited onto bulk single crystal Co0 substrates using molecular-beam epitaxy is strongly affected by the interface structure. Contrary to expectations for uncompensated interfaces, the loop shift increases for samples with greater interface disorder. The results are discussed in the light of proposed exchange anisotropy models. The results...

Direct observation of pinned / biased moments in magnetic superlattices

We report the pinned/biased moment in the superlattices consisting of ferro-magnetic (FM) SrRuO 3 and antiferromgnetic (AFM) SrMnO 3. This superlat-tice system shows anisotropy and oriented pinning/biasing in the field-cooled (FC) hysteresis loop. The in-plane cooling-field provides antiferromagnetic orientations while out-of-plane cooling-field provides ferromagnetic orienta-tions to the pinne...

Modification of the ferromagnetic anisotropy and exchange bias field of NiFe/CoO/Co trilayers through the CoO spacer thicknesses

We have investigated the magnetism of NiFe/CoO/Co trilayers with different CoO spacer thicknesses. The dependence of the coercivity (Hc) and exchange bias field (Hex) on the CoO thicknesses indicated that different pinning strengths from the CoO were acting on the top NiFe and bottom Co layers, respectively. DC susceptibility indicated the different interlayer coupling energies and showed that ...
